Foundation conducts research studies on understanding the efficacy of many programmes of social protection for the poor by the Government and recommends suggestions to improve such programmes. The Foundation works for providing a minimum social protection floor for the vulnerable workers.
The enormous size of the informal sector in India leads to a great degree of vulnerability of the poor. Lokashraya Foundation undertakes studies on various livelihood pursuits of the poor and highlights their vulnerabilities, risks and exploitation. It has critically reviewed the various programmes launched by the government.
With a view to alleviating poverty in India, Lokashraya Foundation is engaged in policy research on poor and the poverty alleviation programmes. It strives to provide the best possible opportunities and improve the capabilities of poor people by improving and expanding the access to basic services through housing.
The Foundation firmly believes that lack of housing or shoddy housing conditions is the biggest deprivation of the poor, and in order to reduce poverty, provisioning of better housing conditions for the poor will act as a catalyst in poverty alleviation.
Communicable diseases, malnutrition are few major factors responsible for childhood deaths in India. Lokashraya Foundation is involved in undertaking research projects on health and nutritional issues in India. It advocates for the universalization of the health care system in India.
Education and skill development are the basic requirements for generating formal jobs and providing social security to rising young workers. The Foundation believes in lessening the burden of over-employment in the agricultural sector and improving the non-farm sector in order to reduce poverty.
